Kirtan: Sound & Voice Meditation with Devaki Thomas

Seated in a circle on the floor with a candlelit altar..sing Sanskrit mantras designed to connect you to your inner space....your voice....your emotions….to process, release, manifest and celebrate life in a held space of togetherness and support. Beginning with a 5 min somatic meditation, followed by a 5 min Chakra balancing exercise and deep breathing leading into singing/chanting simple Sanskrit mantras and ending with Sivasana.

Kirtan or Sound Meditation is an ancient practice from India which strives to bring peace and release to participants through the exploration of Sanskrit chants. Syllables in Sanskrit activate rarely accessed parts of our brains and emotions, helping to connect with our higher selves.

Using various instruments including the Indian harmonium & mridangam, Kirtan facilitator, Devaki, will guide you through various melodic repetitions with the aim to connect you to your voice, express emotions, find inner peace and a sense of togetherness.

Devaki has shared Kirtan at events and festivals across the UK over the last 7 years including Yogific Vegan Festival, Breeze Yoga, Croydon Peace Festival, Tempting Failure, The Study Society, SpiritFest UK, Kamatala Festival in Exeter, The Bedford in Balham, The Life Centre in Angel and many more. She also holds a Masters in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths, University of London and is a qualified Hatha Yoga instructor trained at Abhijna School of Yoga in Kerala. She also comes from a family of well-known Kirtan-makers being raised in the Hare Krisna community in Western Canada.

She welcomes all participants to share this sacred practice of healing connecting expressing and releasing.
